January – hot, muggy and warm day. The chestnut trees are in full bloom.

These are some blooming Pohutukawa trees along the Pauatahanui inlet, on Motukaraka Point. The Pohutukawa is also referred to as ‘the New Zealand Christmas Tree’ because it blooms around Christmas time.
The dark mass in front is Mana Island, a few kilometers away. The looming clouds are much further, about 50 kilometers to the west of Plimmerton, above Arapaoa Island and the Marlborough Sounds
